You watch these romantic comedies or just the good old fashion romantic movies and you can’t help but feel like these have to have at least one minuscule shred of truth to them.
Someone out there has lived that reality.
It can’t just be the imagination of screen writers gone wild.
Someone out there has had that happen to them. Experienced that kind of love, pain, and defied destiny or fate.
So as I watch, as many of you do too, the romantic films that exist out there I can’t help but feel that this is something that almost everyone deserves. I cannot really come up with a good reason as to really the purpose of our existence, but we mind as well enjoy it to the fullest. And to me that means love.
It’s a god awful thing to have these romantic tendencies although I’m sure most who know me would not take me for a hopeless romantic. With the rush of people who come in and out of your life so quickly it is better to not be so openly vulnerable all the time.
I ramble… *side note: my favorite film involving love would be: The Illusionist
But back to the topic…romantic films. Romance. Passion. Love. Soul mates…
And to conclude my ridiculous banter and nonsense with something more substantial and logical…I will quote one of my favorite theories on the matter:
One story about soulmates, presented by Aristophanes in Plato's Symposium, is that humans originally consisted of four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces, but Zeus feared their power and split them all in half, condemning them to spend their lives searching for the other half to complete them:
[Primeval man] could walk upright as men now do, backwards or forwards as he pleased, and he could also roll over and over at a great pace, turning on his four hands and four feet, eight in all, like tumblers going over and over with their legs in the air; this was when he wanted to run fast …Terrible was their might and strength, and the thoughts of their hearts were great, and they made an attack upon the gods … Doubt reigned in the celestial councils. Should they kill them and annihilate the race with thunderbolts, as they had done the giants, then there would be an end of the sacrifices and worship which men offered to them; but, on the other hand, the gods could not suffer their insolence to be unrestrained. At last, after a good deal of reflection, Zeus discovered a way. He said: ‘I have a plan which will humble their pride and improve their manners; men shall continue to exist, but I will cut them in two and then they will be diminished in strength and increased in numbers; this will have the advantage of making them more profitable to us. They shall walk upright on two legs, and if they continue insolent and will not be quiet, I will split them again and they shall hop about on a single leg.’ —Aristophanes, Plato’s
Some argue that souls are literally made and/or fated to be the mates of each other, or to play certain other important roles in each other’s lives
My friend Cyrus has an amazing and unique style. Most likely I’ll be using a lot of pictures of him as inspiration. He makes his own accessories and sells them, and has even had them featured in fashion shows! He’samazing….
Here he is inside of the piercing shop where he works on Haight, Cold Steel America. He’s one of the best piercers in the industry! This is where I get all of my work done.
And a close up of the pin he’s wearing on his vest right over the welt pocket. SO cute.
I am beginning this account as a means to explore art, fashion, and life. This journey to me is about discovering the things that inspire and drive me to live my life to the fullest. Destruction. Creation. Discovery. and Love.
